Trying to setup my new 655 but couldn't figure out how to access my LAN local host using name instead of IP.
I enabled DNS relay and DHCP reservation and have computer/host name assigned based on IP/MAC address.
e.g mymachine
But i still couldn't go or resolve the "mymachine". I can only access it through IP address.
I also have tried to put the local domain name, say "local", but again both "mymachine" and "mymachine.local" cannot be accessed.
Also, if I try to lookup a unknown host (say, "blabalh.bafaw.cafa"), dlink's dns on 192.168.0.1 take a long time to response.
using windows nslookup command, I always see request timeout message coming back.
Any idea guys?
I am using the latest 1.21 firmware.

try OpenDNS servers instead of default

Actually, using OpenDNS caused a very similar problem with my DIR-655, my LAN machines were resolving to one of the OpenDNS servers. Reverting back to my ISPs DNS resolved the issue. I tried OpenDNS with DNS Relay enabled and disabled.
You might want to check the NetBIOS settings in the 1.21 firmware. I tweaked mine a bit and it seems to work well.

yes playing with netbios seems letting windows machine able to use the computer name, but on Mac, still not able to use the name ....
I almost come to conclusion that dlink rounter doesn't do anything in the dns relay, it is just a relay, it is not going to inject any custom local host name entry. Hope someone can prove me wrong.
