Title: Router Problems!
Post by: jdbeyer16 on October 21, 2008, 08:02:09 PM
Today my router just reset itself. We had no power outages or nothing got unplugged from the router for it to happen. The computer just stopped talking to the router until i restarted where I could then go into router settings and amazing my password wouldnt work! We have also been having it disconnecting a lot. What could be the problem?

Hi,

Could be cosmic rays...not kidding here...was just reading a couple days ago about them affecting PC's and such....

I have my router running on my UPS (battery backup) to make sure power is cleaner...

Could be over-heating... I have my router in vertical position to help create a natural air flow inside the unit....

Could be the unit is beginning to fail.....

Could be somebody messed with it to bust your chops.....hope this is NOT the case....I'd be plenty angry if it were....

Dear jdbeyer16,

As It's impossible for me to tell you why this happened I'll give you some tips to minimize this from happening again. If you have a surge protector I'd recommend connecting all electronics on it. You may not have noticed a power outage but a tiny power surge may have caused this. Always having the latest firmware would also help. I don't believe you have anything to worry about unless this occurs daily/weekly.

Best of Luck,

Russell
