Title: SharePort 1.0 problem with VMWare
Post by: ttmcmurry on October 26, 2008, 05:13:28 PM
Just FYI, Shareport 1.0, like v0.96, doesn't work when certain VMWare products are installed:

I'm on Vista Business 64-bit, SP1, all updates as of Oct 2008.
Using VMWare Workstation v6.5 (Sep 08 release).

The virtual NICs interfere with SharePort operation.  Uninstall VMWare Workstation and SharePort works.  Security software isn't an issue as I'm not running any on this test system, only Windows Firewall & Defender.

Unaffected:  VMWare converter (or VMWare Converter Agent), VMWare Server Console, VMWare VMount.

I am thinking of buying Vmware.  Has any progress been made on this issue?

Cheers

None yet.  I can confirm Server 1.x/2.x and Workstation 6.x & 6.5.x break SharePort both inside virtual machines and on the host system.  For now I deal without it, though I'm not a developer I highly suspect SharePort doesn't know how to deal with the Virtual NICs & VMWare Bridge Protocol.  Remove them (or uninstall the VMWare product) and SharePort works again.
