Title: Q about Fw 1.06 feature: Support Gmail authentication
Post by: Mannen on October 29, 2008, 08:41:37 AM
Hi there,

how is this feature supposed to work? Is it for sending e-mails from the client, when failing, and the possibility to use a gmail account for that purpose?

Best regards,

Mannen

Type in your gmail username, password, smtp.gmail.com, save. It uses your gmail account to send mails as notification :).

just keep in mind that your ISP may prevent the transmission of email via an SMTP server that they do not manage.

This is common practice to prevent spam abuse.

You are correct, more and more ISPs are blocking SMTP traffic from leaving the ISP to control the level of SPAM.
At the same time many ISPs are also insisting that the SMTP be authenticated in a secure manner.  The DNS-323 does not support this.

For those people on ISPs that block out bound SMTP traffic and enforce a secure sign-on this e-mail notification system won't work on firmware 1.05
