Title: Security of drive contents if the hard drives are physically removed

Hi all, I don't think I found an answer for my question while searching in the FAQ/Manual. 

Although the drive data can't be accessed via the network connection without the username and password. But are the data on the hard drives secured if someone were to yank the drives out then plug it into a computer?

I am concerned in the event of theft of the device.

My alternative would be to create encrypted volumes or containers in the drive for my backups but I'm hoping not to have to go that route if the drive already does that.

The device uses standard ext2 linux file system. If placed into a linux machine or a windows PC running ext2 reading software data CAN be read. It does not encrypt data.

I have the same need. But you will need to use encrypted containers, something like TrueCrypt.

I really wish there was some kind of secure NAS that used the network credentials to decrypt a key. Then any theft of the drives would render them useless.
