Hi,
I want to copy a file from a local windows share to my DNS. I tried \\machinename\sharename\ as the url but it says Test result: Failure
Please verify the URL,DNS settings, and your account settings.
I suspect it is because the DNS can only use ftp or http to download a file. Are there any plans to support smb for file downloads?
Thanks

That should work fine. Please make sure you are choosing Folder if you are indeed backing up a folder if file is selected (default) it will fail. What exactly is the share folder name?

It is working now! I think I was not using the folder setting.
Thanks!

Not sure if you have done this but first, you set up your users and give them R/W rights under ADVANCE - Ussers/Groups. Second, under ADVANCE - Network Access, give those users rights to the Volume or shares. Run the DLINK Easy Share Utility found on http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=666&sec=0#applications put it on your desktop and run it. You should be able to see the DNS-321 after a few seconds. Click on the device and at the bottom, under Drive Mapping, you should see the volumes available. click on that and click on connect, probably you will get a prompt asking you to log in. If you have created the users, you should be able to do that. After this, you should go to My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista) and see the drive mapping. From here you can create folders if you given yourself admin rights and transfer files. Hope this helps.
