Title: No ability to play DVD

Greetings!

I just received my new DSM-750 today and had no issues configuring it with VMC.  The only exception is that I can't play DVD's.  When I am using Media Center from the DLink, there is no DVD option in Tasks -> Settings.  Also, in TV+Movies, there is no option to play DVD's.  My DLink is hardwired and the latest firmware (1.01.16) has been applied.

When I am running Media Center on the pc, those options are there and working properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

It can't be done with Vista Media Center.  That's one of the shortcomings.  In theory, there is no technical reason why it couldn't be done, but it's like that way by design.  Someone doesn't want you to streaming (wired, or wireless) DVD playback.   :'(

Thank you KB for the explanation.  Now I am confused as all get out...  What is the purpose of an extender?  I want only one device (the extender) along with the TV in my living room/bedroom with my media pc out of sight where it can't be seen or heard...

So this breeds my next question.  I don't have time to rip all my DVD's to my VMC pc and convert them and I certainly would not rip DVD's that I don't own from say, NetFlix.  Am I going to have to purchase an additional DVD player for each TV where I plan on watching DVD's?

How do other folks do this that don't rip their DVD's and convert the VOB's into something the 750 can work with?

I still like the idea of being able to watch/record TV from any TV in the house, so I don't think I will return it quite yet, but not being able to watch a DVD from my extender is certainly not inspiring me to keep it..

I believe it has something to do with streaming media from the extender and the ability to sync properly with the DVD player that they just remove this feature. The Xbox doesnt have this feature as well

You might want to take a look at this thread.  There are numerous posts about this issue on various blogs, so you are not alone in your frustration.  I think one day, we will see the ability to stream DVDs directly from the disc without having to rip them to the PC or media server (although, I believe the future of home entertainment does involve a media server of some sort).
