Title: DGL-4100 vs DGL-4500
Post by: ZoSo925 on November 23, 2008, 10:56:01 PM
Im looking to treat myself this Christmas and upgrade my network to Gigabit and to fully go CAT6.

I just live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment and currently have Linksys Router in my Living Room w/ a 50FT CAT5 running to Master Bedroom (My Office) that connects to a D-Link 5 Port 10/100 Switch II (8 years old).

I plan on getting all D-Link products and when the new firmware comes out, also get the DNS-323 NAS.
My D-Link 5 Port Switch, I'll be upgrading that to a 5 Port Gigabit Switch for my office.

My Living room with router will be attached to my Playstation 3 and possibly the DNS-323 when I get one.
If I use my Notebook, I normally just hook it up to my router when in the Living Room , but never really use my Notebook.

Now comes to DGL-4100 vs DGL-4500.   I really dont care or need Wireless in my apartment. Especially since 802.11n is not fully ratified yet. Is there a difference between DGL-4100 vs DGL-4500 besides the 4500 having wireless feature?   The 4500 is newer, so does it have a more advanced chipset inside or router features?

I owned the DGL-4100 for over a year and it just recently died.  Instead of trying to deal with exchanges or support issue, I just went out and purchased the DGL-4500.  I didn't need the Wireless N support, as I have a DAP-1555 network already.  I use the GDL-4500 as an 802.11b/g AP, as the DAP-1555 is only serving 802.11n.  The DGL-4500 is the better option IMO.  Firmware for the DGL-4500 seems to still be in development, as the 4100 hasn't been updated in well over a year.
