How can I create a 1000 foot hot spot using my DIR-655.
I have added 7db gain antenna and have them on the roof.
This got me out to about 400 ft but the creek bank is about
950. I have got to be able to fish while my wife surfs.
Please help.

An omnidirectional hotspot for 1000 feet will require either a very hi-powered transmitter, a couple of repeaters or a directional antenna setup (point-to-point). The first option wil definetely cause issues with the authorities though. You need to have a transmitting license or something for that.

Without line-of-sight (LOS) to the antenna, this isn't going to happen in one hop. You may need to set up a repeater site that is LOS at both the roof and the pond.
Alternatively, do you get a digital cell-phone signal on the pond? Maybe she could get a 3G card that would work out there.

Yep, forgot to mention the LOS ::)

Repeaters are not going to broadcast 1000 feet. You could amp the signal to broadcast that far, but the client thats trying to connect would need the same about of output to reach the AP's antenna.

So: Use a directional antennae setup or get a broadcasting license ;D
There a specific forums setup for this 'hobby'. Can't think of any at the moment.

Just sharing the knowledge. A high-gain antenna usually improves both TX and RX equitably, so it's not necessary to boost both sides. The same does not hold true with "Booster" amplifiers as a rule, although some were designed to amplify both.
(It still won't go 1000 feet without line-of-sight, and some intermediate or mutual LOS involving WDS would be needed work. No broadcasting license required.)

Antennas are not going to improve reception enough for a notebooks output to reach 1000 ft. The notebooks lucky to see 100ft, let alone 1000. Antennas or not you need WDS to do this.

With directional or parabolic (dish) antennae you can cover over 1000 ft, with a point to point connection. You need to be very exact with the placement and you need a second AP and idem antenna to receive the signal. Placing a third AP in the middle will help but you need some more antennae.

You should take a look to these products : http://www.luxulwireless.com/products
They use bi-directional amplifiers and can cover up to 50000ft² area. This is not cheap stuff but it does work. We use these kits in residential installation for our home automation systems using wi-fi touch panels.
They have all adapters needed to connect to a DIR-655 connector (RP-SMA).
