Title: Problem with DNS 323
Post by: Maria on December 02, 2008, 08:12:36 PM
I can not get connected to the DNS 323.  It seems that the two hard drive light keep blinking on me.  I got the latest firmware running on RAID 1, firm ware 1.05.  I use Easysearch to look for the drives.  It recognize the drive.  However, whenever I click on "Configuration" I got the message that "the device is no longer available".  Please help guys I got a lot of valuable stuffs on this drive I would like to save them.   Thanks

Please restart the unit and you PC and try again. If you are still unable to connect disable you anti-virus software and try again.

Also check that your DNS is not configured with the IP address an existing device on your network.

Sounds like some firewall program that's blocking the request.

In the Control Panel, you can find Services. Right-click over Windows Firewall and choose "stop". Also, be sure to disable any other firewall software that might be running. ZoneAlarm or built-in firewalling with your Anti-Virus suite comes to mind.

Since Easy-search shows the unit, and thus the IP, you could try the following:

As far as I understand, the Configuration button just opens the webpage, so you can try entering in your favorite browser "http://<IP>"  (e.g. http://192.168.0.32 with default IP).

However, it seems you really want to access the data on the drives, so you could open Explorer, and type "\\<IP>"  (e.g. \\192.168.0.32) and see if a network folder will show up.

If neither of these work, it is clearly not the fault of easy_search program, and you should check the unit's IP, your firewall, etc. as the other folks are suggesting.  One other thing to check - perhaps your "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is disabled?

Hope that helps
