Hi everyone;
I had DIR-655 only for few months and was just perfect, but i guess it is just me that keeps updating my network components while they still perfectly working.. my wife hates me for this, but this is another story.. anyhow.
I got this DGL-4500, i have DSL from Bell Sympatico, and the initial setup was hell. The easy setup CD that came in the box didn't run on my Vista laptop and i don't know why (this is not the first time i got a product from D-Link and the CD never run - I had the same problem with the DNS-323).
I tried to set it up like the way i setup the DIR-655 but i don't know what i was missing so i end up trying to use the saved system setup file from the DIR-655, and everything is working now. My question; is using the saved setup file from DIR-655 has any negative effect on the DGL-4500 features - I noticed difference in the appearance of the router stats page ? is this acceptable way to setup a router? i couldn't find answers online.

Joe you can't load a configuration file from a 655 to a 4500. It won't work it shouldn't even let you.

I actually tried it and it works. all my permissions for virtual server and port forwards, DDNS, DMZ, Network name and configuration, radio channel, reserved IPs for my network components... everything.
i didn't expect it to work but it just did. it was the fastest way to get back online after being tired trying to configure it manually without the CD, and so far it works fine.
not sure if some one else ever tried this before, but will be good to know

What firmware version are you using on both routers?

when i saved the config file from the DIR 655 it was after the latest firmware release. and when i first connected the new Router DGL-4500, i updated the firmware to the latest as well. so both of them are up to date
