Title: wifi speed

Hi,

At 802.11g you have a halfduplex stream of 54mbps which results in circa 3mb/sec.
The 802.11N is much faster but still when I download wireless I get no more than 2,5 to 3MB/sec.
Is this normal?

Do you have more than one computer connected wirelessly?

If so make sure all of your computers that are connected wirelessly have an 802.11N Adapter or 802.11N Internal Adapter.

If that is not the case you may want to connect a computer directly to your modem and go to http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?flash=1 and select the location closest to you and test your connection speed. It may be that your ISP speed is low.

I recently had this issue where my connection speed was changed by "accident" by my ISP. I was able to test it using the speed test.

-> I'm not talking about the WAN speed, but the LAN speed.  I'm downloading at 3MB/sec from a local NAS device.  This should be much higher with 802.11N.  It seems it's only Wireless G ?

What encryption are you using? Does your computer have a 802.11N adapter? If so which one?

I thought the DIR-855 dual band does allow parallel connectivity allowing full speed to N devices in 5GHz while slower G devices are running in 2,4GHz band? If your statement is true I am wondering why I just ordered a DIR-855...  :o

That link is incorrect. It's true if the adapters on the network can not all support the AES cipher that 802.11n requires.
