Title: DGL-4500 Installation Software
Post by: TommyDaGip on December 09, 2008, 01:02:18 PM
First let me say I searched the 9 pages of threads for the DGL-4500 and did not see any threads concerning my problem.

I recently had to reinstall my Windows XP home addition on my computer. After installing XP I went to get my install cd for my DGL-4500 and I cannot find it anywhere. I fear I may have lost it in my last move  :'( I searched the d-link website for the installation software but only found Firmware updates and installtion guides. Does anyone know if d-link offers the software to download? I really miss my wireless network. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,
Tommy

You don't need the software.  If you want to setup your router, plug it into your computer, and navigate in your browser to 192.168.0.1 (which is the default address).

After that, click on the basic tab, and set up your connection.  There are guides that will walk you through both the wired stuff, AND the wireless.

Tommy,

As reinvented stated you do not need the software.  As a matter of fact when I placed my disk in my computer (had error on my drive) and it appeared blank.  I did check out the web site but did not need it as I had the IP.  The quick install sheet states you do not need a password to log in.  I suggest changing it once you do get in.  The basic tab is the way to go to start.

one other thought is that you should enable the remote management.  That way you not only have access to change things on your router but also RDP to you machine at home to check.  This is what I am doing even now.

First off let me say thanks.. my network is up and running.... But should I update the firmware? I saw alot of threads complaining about the firmware updates.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Exactly.  if there is a feature that is troubling you that is when you would change. BUT I STRESS THIS YOU MUST BACKUP YOUR CONFIG AND FIRMWARE.  This in case you do have issues so you can roll back to a working configuration.
