Title: Reboot on Save & Solution & Suggestion for DLink
Post by: TotalInferno on December 12, 2008, 01:00:05 PM
I have been having this problem where I can't save anything on my DGL-4500 (the router reboots upon hitting save).  I am using firmware 1.15 (non-beta from the website).

After much soul searching, I found an article that suggested enabling wireless to solve the problem (this was a different router a DIR655 I think) (of course this takes a hard reset of the router, since I can't save any settings after turning off wireless).

Nevertheless, there appears to be a problem with 1.15 on the DGL-4500, after wireless is shut off, no new settings can be saved.  Might be worth looking into for the firmware writers.

Yes! I have am having the same problem here with this router and firmware 1.15. VER A1. It also resets the time of the router apon lease renewal. No settings can be saved under any option not even a time change.

This is exactly why I rolled back to 1.12 and will stay with it until a more consistently functional fw is released.

hello,  i have the same issue. (cant save. router turns off/on)  however i have a way around this problem when it  occurs.  i will give step by step hope is helps..
I am usin firmware 1.15

1.  go to 192.168.0.1  log in.
2.  go to tools,  system settings.
3.  create a new (save configuration)  if you  have 1 with all ur setting skip this step.
4. under system settings click Restore all settings to the factory defaults
5. let router boot up. 3-5 mins at lest.
6. after boot up. 3-5 mins.  then press the reset button on back of router.   router will power cycle,  release reset button.
7. after 3-5 mins log back in 192.168.0.1
8. go to System Settings an load configuration file. (done)  maybe

i have 2 saved files 1.  with wifi turn on.   2. with wifi turn off.   since i cant turn off/on when i want.
after loading new file the router is behaving normal..  however sometimes i get (cant save reboot syndrome) i just reboot.    load saved file and back to normal..

We shouldn't have to resort to using tricks to make it work.

Interesting

I do have the same issue (unable to save new settings). The workaround I've used was to set all configuration the way I wanted before rebooting the device after reapplying the firmware. So each time I press the save button and ask to reboot, I chosen reboot later and did all my configuration that way.

At the end, I've rebooted the device, everything that I wanted was changed and saved correctly but it also doomed me if I want to change something in the future as I will need to reset to factory default or using a different workaround.

I do have the official 1.15 firmware installed on it and the A1 hardware version.

Anybody know if this is fixed in the most recent beta?  I do not use wireless from the dgl-4500 and find it annoying.  I could just enable wireless and make my changes and then disable it afterward...  would be nice if it just "worked" though.

I too have been unable to save across all the firmwares since 1.00. If I need to change settings I need to go back to default settings then make my changes and save. Any changes after the initial save are not made, the router just goes through the motion of restarting.

Like the rest here, to make changes I need to save settings to a config file and restore it after going back to default settings. This is BS for any router let alone a top of the range one.

Time also goes out and I have given up setting it.

Is the DGL-4500 flawed by hardware and D-Link RE not owning up to it? Where's the fix for people experiencing this issue? And if it's only experienced by people with hardware rev A1, where's the firmware fix specifically for that revision?

I am currently on FW 1.15 with Hardware Revision A1 btw.

Give that a try. See if that sets you straight.

The link from Lycan is no longer available. Can anyone point me to the solution?

FYI,
This problem isn't seen using v1.21 Beta 03 and 08.
