Title: Firmware current 1.15 - should I upgrade
Post by: zariaman on February 03, 2011, 01:08:02 PM
I thought I had the latest firmware; when I click Check Now I get "This firmware is the latest version".  I just looked at this forum recently and found out that there is firmware version 1.23NA.  I was just looking for a little more info.
What does the NA sand for is it a code for beta?
I believe I have hardware version A2 can I still upgrade beyond 1.15
I read on the dlink site that 1.20 is not downgradable, but is 1.21 and above downgradable?
any negatives with the new firmware?

I am a DBA and I enjoy tweeking; I have been trying to get the best xbox connection possible and would love to try out new settings if this new firmware does offer that.

If your not having any problems with the router, stay with v1.15, its a very good version. V1.21 is know if have some issues that were corrected in v1.22 and remains in v1.23.

Review the Gaming and Gamefuel sticky for xbox configurations.

Thanks for the quick reply FurryNutz, your help is greatly appreciated and thanks for the xbox config as well.

Nothing is wrong with, but nothing was wrong with my DIR-615 or DIR-655 but I bought the 4500 because I wanted to try something better/faster.
I guess my question is does the firmware improve anything; I am kind of obsessed with making things better, you might understand.

I do understand. I have used both versions and they both are good and stable versions. Your not gaining anything or missing out on anything by going to v1.23. Your good at where your at IMO. I've been running v1.12 for a while. I have updated to v1.23 for testing purposes on a couple of items were testing out. Other than this, it's been good either way. Your router is good at where its at. Your not missing anything.  ;D

Most firmware updates are done based on people reporting bugs that can't be resolved. These bugs usually have to get through many layers of "I know how to fix this" before its accepted as a bug, so usually only the most common and serious bugs are addressed. Its not like the engineers are going through the code and tweaking it though, so there is little to know performance gain from the version, just dependability.

I have 1.15 as well and just noticed there's a 1.23NA.

The only reason I'd want to upgrade would be if 1.23 fixed any security vulnerabilities.  Does anyone know if 1.23NA is more secure than 1.15?

it's about the same. If it works don't fix it.
