Hello,
Just got a new Intel 5300 and was wondering what the optimal settings for this nic are in conjunction with my DIR-655?? There are more settings in the driver gui for the nic than i had for my Intel 4965. Any help is appreciated.

Ensure that the router is set to auto20.40 mode and that you're using the WPA2/aes encryption and you should be good.

Thanks,

But beside of that, can some tell me why I see a huge difference when I download a file from my NAS when I turn on/off the WMM option in the router?
I'm talking about differences of transfers speed of
9.0 MB/s - ON
3.0 MB/s - OFF

Have a look at 'WMM' at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Multimedia_Extensions) and you'll find out why this may be more than coincidence :D

...?
Wikipedia gives no explanation/reason to the behaviour the i'm describing.
The download of a file has nothing to do with QoS, a simple file transfer requires no priority.

The Intel 5300 is a dual-band wireless adapter and I do believe the DIR-655 router can only do th 2.4Ghz band. This could mean that the connection can only get speeds up to 130Mb/s.

No
The Intel can only connect at 2.4 GHz with the DIR-655 but up to 300 Mbps when channel width is set to 40 MHz.
With Dualband Routers it can connect either 2.4 or 5 GHz up to 300 Mbit.
It can't connect both frequencies at the same time.

One other note, make sure you go into the device manager properties on the WiFi Link 5300. On the advanced tab, make sure the channel width for 2.4GHz is set to auto rather than 20MHz only.

Iv been wondering about these settings as well. Iv been doing some testing lately with these cards as I just put them in 2 laptops. I seem to be able to squeeze 11mbs over network transfers between a wired computer and a wireless. Does this sound about right? Iv looked allover and haven't seen people getting to much more.

I have my adapter/5300 set to auto and the 655 set to 40....smooth sailing
-
What are you transfer speeds like?
-
I have no idea what my speeds are, I stream 1080p rips off my qnap nas wireless from the basement to the main floor...fast enuff I guess
-
I get 5MB/s typically, though I have WPA2-AES, and it's a mixed network with G as well. No B though.
-
Hrm interesting.
Do you guys have Throughput Enhancement turned on under the adapter settings?
-
Yeah I do. No idea if it does anything though.
