Title: Slow internet with DIR-655
Post by: shingojr on January 06, 2009, 04:54:20 PM
I been using DIR-655 for around 3 months, at first I had experiencing a lot of internet drops, then it gone.  Now i'm having slow internet problem.  I did a tracert www.google.com in command prompt when my comp connect straight to modem and connect to router.  With connecting to modem, I have no problems at all, speed is fast.  With connecting to router, i'm getting over 500ms ping in the tracing route.  I have no idea what's going on but I read that if connecting to modem has no problem, then i has to be the router.  Can anyone point me to the right direction on what should I do?

PLease provide some more info, this is like saying to the doctor "I don't feel well". No idea where to start...so help us out by giving us a look on your networking environment.

*Were there any changes lately in your modem-, router setup or on the network (changed settings, added devices)?
* Is the high PING generic or with certain applications on your network/PC active in the background (P2P; Limewire, BT)
*Which firware version does the router have

First thing you can do is go to http://192.168.0.1/Basic/Network.shtml and disable (uncheck) DNS relay and manually input your ISP's DNS servers (just below).
