Title: when Using UPnP server and BT.. can you secure it?
Post by: lastdon on January 09, 2009, 03:43:15 PM
Hello all,

Question... Can anyone even outside my network access the UPnP server as there no location to secure it with a user name?

Also with the BT torrent Folder.. how come with 1.06 u can create a user /group to secure it, but you can't secure the Original one that is made in the NetWork Access ?

I mean hypothetically if someone hacked my Wireless WPA, they could access the BT folder at anytime cause i can't secure it.

any info on this>

You can bock all access from your router to your NAS. If you are using the DIR-655 (Dlink) goto ADVANCED/PORT FORWARDING. You can set any range or number of ports to "open" but set the inbound filter to DENY ALL.

That will do the trick. No one from the outside will even notice it. There could be a fancier way...such as setting file permissions...but iff someone is hacking into the box...they already got permission:)

Cheers,

Lucid.

If someone hacks into your box any security won't matter since the box is hacked. If you want to prevent others from accessing your NAS that's a difference story.

weird here is the picture

just it's weird with VOLUME 1 you can modify it, with the bt folder u can't, so it's somewhat open to everyone right?

the only way someone can hack into my router is to break the wifi no?

same thing with the UPnP if it's enabled can't anyone access it at anytime?
