Title: QoS for cod 4and 5
Post by: LaRSin on January 10, 2009, 09:45:52 AM
I want to set QoS for gaming and was wondering if anybody knows what the Protocols and Local port range has  to be set at.

 ;D ;D

You can find out for yourself what ports and protocols (TCP and/or UDP) you can set if you google a bit on these games or go through the basic manual!: http://www.google.nl/search?rlz=1C1_____enNL307NL307&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=COD4+ports+protocol
You could show some effort...  :o

As a general rule you can set those ports to 32 or 64. Do not give 'm 1 since that will starve all normal internet traffic. And setting rules only has an affect when you give the 'competing' data streams a lower priority. Do not mess with http (port 80), since that willnot affect gaming performance (unless your a heavy http dowloader. So minimize your rules.

I did all those searches in google , didn't really get anything out of it so I came here help not sarcasm.
But thx anyway. And I think the port is 28960, But since I have never done it before , I thought I might get some help here .

Sarcasm is response you get when there is something not completely right about your own actions, that's life. Certainly strange that my simple search string does give enough answers. It's not that I used other words then you used in your question.... (COD4, ports, protocol) ???

But don't mind my way of helping people, I'm just someone on a forum  ;)

If you're playing them on a console, I'd just prioritize the entire scope of ports for that console.

Like I said before I'n not network savy , I didn't know QoS settings was the same as port forwarding.
I have both

It isn't the same. But how many answers do you need?
I gave you a manual for the QoS Settings and a hint (anyone who can spell can use Google) as to where you can find the ports that need QoS rules (the portforwarding site lists all of them). So what's the problem?

If you are really not into anything beyond your keyboard, just get a friend on location to help you out.

That's the spirit. One sarcastic remark a day keeps the divorce lawyer away  ;)

Look let get this straight I appreciated any help people give , And I help people all the time with computer problems, But I'm trying to learn  networking from people that know, But I don't need rude comments with it. I google search everything and read it all ,But sometimes there's thing that just don't make sense or I have a hard time grasping, If you want to help people I think that's great , But do it somewhat of nice way , Not everybody will understand or know what you are telling them, Remember you started the crap and didn't like it when I told you . Help forums like this don't need that type of help.

And know I haven't figured out QoS yet , But that's not that important, It was there and I thought I would give it try. That's how we learn.

Hmmm, do I detect sudden change of mood (this is cynism)?  ???
It's no problem when people don't understand.
The best learning experience is not somebody telling them which switch to set, but giving someone a good lead as to where to find the info. Don't go looking for COD4/5 specifics on a router forum but go looking for it on a COD forum. I found all the ports just by looking at the first query results in Google. You were given that link too....or do you want others to do the manual labour and report back to you?

If you want a full manual on networking you might want to put some effort in looking around yourself before getting "into the kitchen": Wikipedia, Google etc are pretty resourceful. The forum is here to help people with issues, not to provide a course in networking.

And don't feel offended. It's just words.
