Title: cannot upgrade dir855 firmware

Hi,I have dir 855 ,h/w version A2,firmware 1.21 N.A.I brought this router refurbished.when i attempt to upgrade its firmware  i get an error message
The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted. If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The Gateway will not be reprogrammed

why am i getting the message- any advice/suggestions are welcome.Also i see firmware versions on dlink page http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DIR-855&tab=3 (http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DIR-855&tab=3) but on routers tools page,it says i have latest firmware-Thanks

Did you make sure that when you downloaded the new FW file that you unpacked the .bin file from the ZIP file?

I would do a full factory reset using the web page under Tools/System. Then update using the .bin file. Should take this file. If it does, the do one more factory reset then you should be good to go.

Save off your configuration to file before you start this if you have any specialized settings.

thanks for your reply,i started with tools-system page and backed up gws file at 'save configuration".Then  saved the file i downloaded from dlink site on my computer and applied at tools-firmware page by uploading the whole thing at 'firmware upgrade' section.I am not very much into computers-so tell me if i am doing something wrong.I will be trying as you said to reboot from firmware page and update.thanks

that was what i was doing wrong.i extracted file and  then uploaded after rebooting and it worked.thanks for your help
