Title: Router Won't Load Firmware Update
Post by: Guitarmaniac_7_7 on January 13, 2009, 06:13:52 PM
Ok, so my router isn't working.  Period.  It's not assigning IP addresses.

So I did a hard reset by holding down the reset button while plugging it in.  I get a flashing light, which I take as a good sign...

I then assign a static IP to my computer as 192.168.0.2 and subnet mask at 255.255.255.0 (I'm assuming this works?)

I then sign into 192.168.0.1 on my browser, and I get the firmware update screen.  I try Sending the firmware update, but it just sits, and sits, and sits.  I let it sit for 3 hours, and it still does nothing.

What am I doing wrong?  Do I have my static IP wrong?  Is my Flash memory on my router fried?  What's up?

You did not mention which version of the router's hardware (A, B1 or C)

Firmwares are hardware revisions specific.  You can not normally update the firmware if the hardware revision versions do not match.  (ex.:  Update the firmware 2.25 hw:B1  can only be done on a B1 version of the hardware.)

Oh yeah, sorry.  It's:

H/W Ver. A1
F/W Ver. 1.00

Did you download the correct firmware update file, the one for your hardware version?

I am experiencing the same issue. If I try to upload any info, ie firmware, then I lose connection to the router. Any thoughts?

Firmware updates must be done via an Ethernet cable.  They can not be done over the wireless network as the router will disconnect the wireless network or reset itself to factory defaults.

I understand that. I am connected via an Ethernet cable, I have specified a static ip as the router does not assign one and I get a nonstandard page telling me I can update the firmware. This is NOT the regular interface to the router. It does not ask for a login, just has a browse for firmware dialog and a send button. Also my wireless light does not come on at this point, just has a blinking status light. If I attempt to send the firmware file, then I lose connection to the router and it has to be power reset to get the non-regular screen to come back. Otherwise the router does not respond to the browser gets at all.  You can see the screen at http://hosted.pikipimp.com/pimped_photo/s/image/44/480/778/Firmware_screen-compiled.JPG

Thanks,

The general impression I seem to get about the A1 hardware is that it is a POS. I guess that my best option will be to junk the router, unless someone has an answer to this firmware update issue.

Try updating the firmware in IE.

I had the same problem with the same H/W and F/w Rev A1

I had to try numerous times, over a WIRED connection, with STATIC IP address.

Also, I believe that before I could get it to work, I had use MS-IE.
Normally, I use FireFox. Oh, I also use Browzar-Black(maybe that's the one.)

Additionally, I believe that I had to disable my software firewall.

Please note that the Firmware update only takes less than a minute.
If nothing is happening within one/two minutes, try again and try something else.

I also had to hold the reset button while powering up just to get to the firmware upload page(default). After a successful upload, I got the proper configuration page from the router.

One more thing, I started with version 1.10 of the firmware.

Please let me know if yiou get it working, and whether or not it will retain the configuration after a power-cycle or re-boot. Mine will not.

Hope this info helps!
