Title: Please Pardon my ignorance
Post by: r2s on February 18, 2011, 06:14:18 AM
I have two identical devices plugged into the back of my Dir-655. each has it's own individual IP address but both are trying to communicate on the same ports and it's causing problems. I was told that I needed to assign each device to certain ports in the router. I tried port forwarding but that didn't work and I was told that isn't what I need to do anyways. can someone tell me how to assign certain ports for communication to certain devices? I've searched high and low and I'm totally lost   lol  thanks for your help

What ports are you needing to assign?

If you have multiple devices using a certain port, you'll probably need to use QoS as it can handle the IP address assignments to a specific port number.

Is there a way on your two devices to change their default settings to use different ports ?  Many IP based devices have a setup utility or some interface where you can change settings for such a case as you are describing.

We have a couple Xbox360's here and they seem able to sort those things out on their own.....

What device are we talking about in your situation ?
