Title: Using DNS-323 with DSM-320 or DSM-520, streaming issues
Post by: mitre_11 on February 18, 2011, 09:53:55 PM
I just purchased a DNS-323 recently so I can stream videos from its media server instead of keeping my PC on (and running media server on it).

Never had any issues streaming video to DSM-320 or DSM-520 from media server on PC.
*** DSM-320 and DSM-520 wireless connection on my home network.

Hooked up the DNS-323 to my home network and tried streaming video from DNS-323 to DSM-320 and DSM-520, very unsatisfactory.

Using DSM-320 (wireless) - very choppy, unreliable.
Using DSM-320 (wired/100M) - frequent pauses in video and audio.

Using DSM-520 (wireless) - smooth video but audio lags.

I setup the DNS-323 using ext2 and RAID0 (Using 2 500G drives). Shutdown all services except UPnP (Media Server).
DNS-323 is a 100M connection into my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router.

Any suggestions on why this is happening and is there a solution to fix this issue.
Thanks

How is your transfer speeds? Have you ran NAStester to find out?

My hard drive isn't on the compatibility list and only maxes out at 1-2 megs a second, resulting in choppy video.

I'm using dual:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS SATA 3G HDD 500GB*
which are supported with DNS-323

I will download the NAStester and post the results tommorrow when I get back to my house. Thanks
