Title: Dir-825 and DGL-4500 on the same network
Post by: usmarine0622 on February 20, 2011, 12:16:24 PM
Hey guys I just got my DIR-825 it's replacing my DGL-4500 (I could not take the wireless drops anymore). I was wondering if it were possible to use the DGL-4500 as a bridge so I can use the 4 LAN ports. I know the DGL-4300 is able to do this by selecting bridge mode in the settings, but I did not see a setting for that without changing the browser view to no style. in the DGL-4500. I know there are some hidden settings if you set the browser style to no style and there was a option to put the 4500 in bridge mode but it does not work. Anyone have a DGL-4500 on Their network as a bridge?

Your user manual has instructions for connecting to another router.

Disable UPnP in advanced network.
Disable DHCP in network settings.
Change router IP address in network settings.
Connect 2 routers lan port to lan port.

What FW is loaded on the 4500?
What hardware version is the 4500?

What wireless modes were you using on the 4500? Did you happend to try Single mode G or N at 2.4Ghz to see if you saw the wireless restarts?

What wireless devices do you have connected to it?

I'm using 1.23NA on my DGL-4500, I tried it in g mode only and N mode only, 2Ghz and 5Ghz and no joy. I have not had any problems with my wireless network since I installed the DIR-825. I checked the status and no errors or dropped packets at all.

And does the 4500 WiFi work if you create a different SSID instead of trying to bridge the 4500? You'll need to set up a static IP address on the 4500, give it the same sub net address then use the IP address of the 825 LAN side and use this for the Gateway on the 4500. I would turn off SPI firewall as well on the 4500 too.

Connect the Lan cable from one LAN port to the 825 Lan Port, Don't use the WAN port on the 4500. It should act as a AP at this point.

I saw your post on the 4500. Kewl man. So I presume that bridging the 4500 to the 825's WiFi SSID is not working correct?  ???
