I need to reset my 615 remotely. I will have someone on the other end push the reset button. I will then need to have them login to the 615 wirelessly. I'll establish a remote control session to their computer, and then I'll reconfigure the router settings. I know how to reconfigure the router just fine.
So, here are my questions:
1) How long do you press the reset button, the manual says 10 seconds, is that correct?
>> 12 SECONDS
2) Once reset, is wireless turned on by default? I hope so, but the manual shows ENABLE WIRELESS unchecked... is that the default setting? Do I HAVE TO CONNECT VIA LAN CABLE TO "ENABLE WIRELESS" first?
>> YES
3) is the default ssid = "dlink" (no quotes)
>> YES
4) is the SSID invisible by default, or is it visible immediately after RESET?
>> IT IS VISIBLE AFTER RESET
The person on the other side can't access the router with a LAN cable, so once reset, the only way to get into the router will be via wireless; that's why I want to be sure I can do this before we do the reset.
Thanks in advance. this is a great router!

I would recommend doing this if you have to have someone reset your router and then you have to reload settings everytime. I would set up your router and configure it for everything that you need. Once this is done, do a Save Configuration to File in the Tools/System menu. Save this file then you or anyone can use the same menu options to reload the configuration file should the router have to be Factory reset. It's a great time saver.

yes, great tip. I have done that. In this case, we have screwed up the admin's password and need to reset it...

Need to keep a good password and keep it simple too. Doesn't have to be complex. Something familiar to you thats easy to remember. ;)
Also, have you set up the Remote Administration option under Tools/Admin?

I think I exceeded the maximum length for the password, because it is either not recognizing what I wrote down OR I fat fingered it incorrectly 2X... it's possible <g>
I did have remote access set up originally, but now when I go to reset the router in order to get into it, it will disable remote access; so I need to access the router remotely through a LiveMeeting or WEBEX from a machine connected wirelessly through the router.

OK, well, hope you get it setup well then.
