Title: nas-320 as media server and subtitles on LG LCD
Post by: rogi2010 on February 24, 2011, 10:25:59 AM
Heya.

I recently purchased nas-320 and im very happy with it, i also managed to enabole media server to support my LG LCD tv 32ld650 even tho lg support in my country said is not possible becase my tv does not have  capabilities to play things from media server. Anyways to make long story shorter, i can see my video files and i can also play them fine over dnla but i dont get subtitles. I have both movie and subtitle in same directory and same name (movie as .avi and subtitles as .srt) but it doesnt play. Im not blaming nas or anything just im trying to find any other solution besides hard coding subtitles into the movie. If i copy both files on usb and stick it into tv, they play fine. Is the problem connected to dlna or there is something else? Any input would be great.

Can your TV connect to the NAS using SMB instead of UPnP, i.e. like you do from a PC? Try that and see if it works.

Sadly, my tv does not have SMB support (for now i am playing things from my usb external hard drive, but to copy things on, i have to unplug it from tv and plug to computer), so i am stuck with DLNA. I was checking around and there is some issue with DLNA server installed, but there is another server called miniDLNA (used for external WD hard drives with network) that works and you get subtitles. I understand my 320 can be modified, and if i understand correctly, its on one of your drives, so there is no tinkering with code in ROM that would void warranty. If anyone has more info about everything please let me know.

Will add subtitles support to my list of improvements. I can not guarantee a time-frame but I will put it on the to-do list.

Is this ability (play .srt subtitles with UPnP) available with the beta firmware 2.01 ?
Are you working on that issue? We need it  :)
Thanks!
