I followed the simple steps from the installation CD, but my computer will not detect the router. After spending an hour on the phone with a D-Link technician going through several steps . . . he ultimately said I need to contact Microsoft to find out how to change my browser IP address. Not sure this guy knew his stuff. Am I missing something simple, or do I really need to contact Microsoft to help me? Thanks much.

TK,
If you connect your PC directly to your modem can you get online? Who is your service provider and what kind of connection do you have cable or DSL?
-
Yes, I can get online directly through the modem. My provider is RCN and I have a broadband cable connection. D-Link Case # is ALR400057403. I appreciate the help.

With the modem connected to the WAN port of the router and your PC "wired" to a LAN port of the router, you will need run the IP address of your PC
With Windows XP:
Start
Run
Run: cmd
In the "CMD" window, type: ipconfig
Look for
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
.....
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :
You should be getting an IP address of 192.168.0.xxx series.
Then use Internet Explorer, enter: http://192.168.0.1
and continue to set up the router manually.
I never relied on the "bundled" Network Magic software.

the technician might want to configure the router manually, you can do it on your own just open a web browser and visit this site http://192.168.0.1 (not actually a website since you can access this page offline just make sure your router is connected to your computer) ;) if you got it right you'll be directed to the login page for your router (Username:admin Password: )
