Title: Router can't get connection
Post by: gorelab on February 27, 2011, 04:45:29 PM
I have a problem with my router not connecting to a modem I know is working when connecting a comptuer directly to the modem it works fine, but when connecting via the router there is absolutely no internet access, and multiple unpluggings and resetting the router to factory defaults and resetting it up hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Make sure you power cycle the modem too.

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have?
Is the ISP modem a stand alone modem or does it have it's own built in router?
Verify cables are good. Swap out with know good and working cables?
Are you releasing and renewing the network settings on the connected device?

Hi gorelab,

You haven't registered the Router with the Modem. The Modem is only recognizing the Computer and that's why you don't have Internet. You need to remove Power from the Modem and disconnect its Co-Axial Connection.

In other words, remove the Computer from the Modem's Memory, by removing power from the Modem and disconnect the Outside Line from the Modem. Reapply power after a minute. Once power is restored, reconnect the Co-Axial Cable, the Outside Line.
