Title: RAID1 to Standard without formating
Post by: Caneli70 on February 27, 2011, 09:09:28 PM: I saw a thread from 2009 that talks about how to change the disk configuration from RAID1 to Standard without the need to format all drive involved and copying all data off the drives. See below.

2 - power the unit off
3 - remove a drive - pick one, any one
4 - power the unit on
5 - login to the web interface
6 - select Tools/RAID/Set RAID Type & Reformat.
7 - wait for the format to complete & reboot
8 - power the unit off
9 - replace the drive removed in step 2
10 - power the unit on

That wasn't so hard was it?

My first post here, though I've been reading these forums since purchasing a DNS-323 a couple years ago. So first of all, thanks to all the regulars who have provided a wealth of information.

And in particular, thanks to fordem for this procedure, which provides the answer to the question I was most recently researching.

In Step #3 you remove a drive with data. After it is reinserted later on in Step #9, Raid is no longer enabled so it becomes a separate volume so you will be able to access the data.

If that were the case, wouldn't someone who had followed the instructions already have remarked on it?

The fact that there are no posts saying it didn't work for me is your evidence - and please note the first post in this thread refers to one I made in August of 2009 - roughly 20 months ago.
