Am about to set up my new DIR-655. I noticed that the routers default IP is 192.168.0.1 The router it replaces used 192.168.1.1
Since I have several devises on the network with fixed IPs 192.168.1.x (printer and Stora) and since I do not want to change them, can I leave them as is?
Also, last time I changed the IPs that the router hands out, many computer could no longer see each other on the network, due to firewall issues. So, can I set the router to use a range like 192.168.1.xx even though the routers address is not changed? or
should I just change the router IP to 192.168.1.1 and change the range. Also do I need to change the mask if I do any of this?

You can change the IP address to 192.168.1.1, just remember to go in and also change the DHCP address range to match 192.168.1.X - XX subnet mask is still 255.255.255.0. I run mine at 192.168.10.1.

Is it necessary that the DHCP addresses follow the router IP, i.e.
router: 192.168.1.1 DHCP 192.168.1.xx
router 192.168.0.1 DHCP 192.168.0.xx
can I use...0.1 router with ...1.x DHCP

You will have subnet mask issues if you use a different router IP and DHCP address range. Best to keep everything simple. If the router is 192.168.1.1 use 192.168.1.x to xx for your range.
If you know about subnetting and the rules then do whatever you like, but the easiest way is the way I liested earlier and above.
