Title: Problems with Wireless Computers seeing Wired Computers
Post by: msr on March 08, 2011, 04:31:00 PM
This is probably trivial, but I can't figure out how to fix it. There is an asymmetry in the connectivity/visibility of the computers on my network. On the wired side (running through the DIR-655) I have a couple computers, a satellite box, and a NAS. Wirelessly, I have a laptop, an XBox, another satellite box and a few less important devices.

The devices on the wired network can see each other and can see the wireless devices (such as the laptop). However, the wireless devices cannot see any of the wired devices. This is particularly frustrating because I've got UPnP on the NAS and I'd like some of the wireless devices to be able to access it. I have UPnP turned on in the settings of the DIR-655, but broadly speaking it seems like something else is blocking communication and I can't figure out what it might be.

Open the Routers Admin Pages.  Go to Advanced> Advanced Wireless.  Make sure WLAN Partition is unchecked.

WLAN Partition is already unchecked. Thanks though.

Make sure all of your OSs are on the same work group?

Set static IP addresses on the router for all of your connected devices.

Ack. After going through all of the settings page by page I think I figured it out. When I first set the system up I got confused over the settings and setup my primary wireless network as the guest network (and thus accidentally left the actual primary open...). Everything has actually been connected through the "guest" network which, by default, disables routing between zones.

Will be fixing all of this now. Thanks for the suggestions.
