Title: Slow Windows 7?

Here is my network and computers:
(1) DSL connection to the Internet - 6 MB down, 512k up
(1) D-Link DGL-4100 router
(1) D-Link DAP-2553 wireless access point
(1) Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 with Windows 7 Ultimate
(1) ASUS EB1501 with Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  I use this as a file and media server.
(1) MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.6

No video game systems or anything else that connects through the Internet.

Connecting the Internet with all computers is fine.  Seems I get 3-5 Mbps (although I'm not quite sure how to verify that).  Using SpeedTest.net verifies my connection is what I'm paying for.

Here's the thing: when ever I do file copies between computers (any combination of the three), it is DOG SLOW.  I'm talking 1.5 to 2 Mbps.  In Windows, if you look at the Network properties, it says they are connected at 108 Mbps.  But copying computer-to-computer is maddening slow.  Can't even stream a video across my internal network.

Here's what I've tried:

• Firmware on network components are up to date
• Drivers for wireless adapters on Windows 7 are up to date
• All the tricks you'll find on the Internet - turning off Remote Differential Compression, playing with adapter connection settings, turning off firewalls, disable autotuning, removing anti-virus software (I was using AVG), etc.
• I used two old wireless routers (Linksys WRT54G and some off-brand) and internal file transfers are slow with those, too

None of this sped anything up.  I can't figure out if this is a Windows 7 problem or a network problem.  I bought my D-Link stuff at New Egg and it seemed like no one was having problems with Win7, but I'm pretty much past my level of toying with Windows to speed anything up.

Anyone have any experience with Win7 being slow on file transfers using the DGL-4100 and/or the WAP-2553?  Did you make configuration changes anywhere to speed things up?

What wireless modes are you using at the AP?
Whats the highest mode your devices support? G and N?
Try changing the AP mode from mixed to single mode G or N to test. See what happens. I know that you will never attain speeds above 10Mb mostly over wireless, just the nature of the beast. I use N mode and max I get is 10Mb between on my router and my Mac Book Pro and Airport Extreme set to AP.

To see if Windows or the router is an issue, connect everything up wired to the router and test file xfers between PCs. You should see will into 10-50Mb here.
