Title: dns-320 using a 7200rpm hd and a 5400rpm hd
Post by: eddy64 on March 18, 2011, 06:46:08 AM
ive bought a dlink dns-320  and have  3 hd's I can use in it,  a  2tb wd eads hd, a 2tb hitachi hd and a 2tb wd ears hd.

the hitachi is a 7200rpm one, will it be ok to use it with a 5400rpm one?  i'll be using them as standard, stand alone hd's rather than raiding them.

i was also wondering if i got another dns-320  and plugged it into the same network as the other would i have any problems?

Shouldn't be an issue, I have both 5400 and 7200 HDD setup on my NAS.

Forgotten to add, if you encountered issue with formatting, just do the HD setup with one drive at a time.

thanks, i know your not supposed to mix advanced format drives with ordinary ones.  i think the wd eads and the hitachi are normal format ones.

Where you got this info from and what likely problem will one encounter?

FYI, I being using Samsung F4 (Advanced Format) and normal Samsung drive for quite a while now without issue.

i read it in one of the posts on this forum, could be that it was refering to a raid setup though.    moot point for me as all my wd drives appear to be advanced format even the 2 eads drives  i got back from wd rma a week ago.
