Title: Unzip/Unrar direct from nas
Post by: jfast on March 18, 2011, 08:35:13 AM
Hi,

I often download through my DNS-320 very large zip/rar archives.

Is there a way to unzip/unrar them direct from nas? If I use winrar on my pc the archives will be copied on my pc, then will be expanded and send again to nas box. That takes long time and write too many gigs uselessly on my ssd.

Sorry form my englis, hope you understand

thanks

How are your disks setup on the DNS-320? RAID 1? Standard?
Do you have space on your PC to hold the initial download files?

From a processing point of view, it would seem best to download to the PC and uncompress to the DNS-320.  This way you would reduce the disk activity on the NAS.

thank you for your reply,

at the moment I've only 1 disk.
I want to let my nas download when I'm not at home.

I've found a solution, but It's quite tricky for me: install fonz_plug and make a script that use command-line unrar that expand files and delete the archive when finished.
