Title: DIR-655 Issues with Motorola Modem(DSL)
Post by: Turfy on March 19, 2011, 12:00:57 AM
[INFO] Fri March 18 20:12:02 2011 INTERNET PPPoE session protocol fault.  Connection attempt failed.
[INFO] Fri March 18 20:12:02 2011 PPP network down

I get this at random times. My internet disconnects until I reset my modem and I don't think it has anything to do with the modem because I had it replaced by my ISP and they did a few line tests and nothing was wrong. What can I do to avoid having this problem anymore? It's been doing it for almost 2 weeks now and when it decides to do it is random.

You need to have your ISP check all of the DSL lines going to your house and make sure they are filtered correctly and wired correctly and make sure that any house phones on this line are not interfering with the DSL signal. If your seeing this on the routers logs and your router is using the PPPoE connection an the DSL modem is bridged, this means the router is sensing that the modem and the signal on the modem is going down and the router is doing his job as reporting it as such. Seen this before with ISPs. They are quick to blame the router or down stream from there modem. I would also invest in your own DSL modem if you can. Sometimes ISP modems are the low end of hardware and you can avoid rental fees.

Example of what happens on DSL ISPs.
