Just bought a new DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router 3 days ago. Have 5MB fiber and consistently receive 4.7-5.0MB when connected directly to my laptop (windows XP, Dell wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-card, 802.11g only). I followed the CD instruction to set up the router and when connected wirelessly I consistently get 2.4 - 2.7 MB. When I connect a cable from the router to my laptop, I get the 4.7 - 5.0MB that I get when connected directly. I've tried a second laptop (Vista, 802.11g only) and when connected wirelessly I get 4.7-5.0 MB. A friend of mine who has a laptop (Windows 7, g/n) also connected at 4.7-5.0 MB.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support changing all kinds of settings and nothing seems to help. Is it the router? Or is it a setting on my Win XP laptop? Seems like it would be a setting on the laptop as I can get 5.0MB wirelessly on other computers.
There is nothing else connected to the router. My nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away so there are no other devices to cause problems.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

What wireless modes are you using on the router?
Try single mode G or Mixed mode N?
I would turn off QoS if you aren't using it to test.
If you have 5Mb down and seeing 2.4-2.7Mb on the wireless, thats still pretty good.
Not all wireless performs the same on devices;
