I recently(2 months ago) jumped into the 21st century and purchased a laptop which required the purchase of a wireless router. I have never networked anything. I successfully installed the DIR-615 and am able to go back and forth between my laptop and desktop without too much effort. My issue lies with internet access! I do not have all the specs so please bear with me. I am using a cable modem desktop is Firefox and laptop IE8.
I have had continuing trouble with staying connected to the internet. I have had the cable company out twice, first time they change the cable from the wall jack to the modem yesterday (2nd visit) they replaced the modem. I am still having difficulties with staying on internet. While on my laptop my wireless indicator stays at excellent yet I lose internet. So originally I assumed cable company but after 2 visits I am wondering about router now. How can I check the router to see if it is up to snuff? I believe i may still be within 90-days of purchase (if that is the warranty time period). Cable man connected desktop straight into modem and the connection was screaming!!! So I know the router is knocking the signal down some but could it be fluctuating enough to cause periodic drops?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Have a friend at Cisco who shook his head when he heard about my purchase........
Did I mention I have no experience with routers?

Try turing off QoS settings for the router if they are on.
Open a web browser, any will do and go to 192.168.0.1 and log in to the router. PW is blank if you haven't changed it. This needs to be changed at some point.
Ensure that Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses are filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual section of the router.
Are you using the Wireless to connect to the internet?
What wireless modes are you using?
Try changing the wireless mode from mixed to single mode G.
If you need some help, we might be able to remote into your system and help you out if you can't seem to find the places you need to go. Hope you can get it setup.
