Title: Does DCS-1130 allow stream within a LAN only ?
Post by: Erad99 on March 25, 2011, 09:15:08 AM
I'm researching a solution for a friend and wondering if this DCS-1130 REQUIRES an internet connection to steam at all.  Or, is this capable of streaming over a local area network only ?

Internet connectivity is present and available.  Concern is constant use of camera's stream will chew through ISP's bandwidth limit that friend has on subscription to ISP service.  Am I worried for nothing ?  What is average months steady stream bandwidth usage ?  I'm assuming too that frame rate and audio bit rate can be changed to accommodate this.

To be used as baby monitor in and around home with an Iphone4 as display.  Is this the right product ?

Purpose made baby-video monitors by other companies were tried and did not allow for the distance required by friends wife from nursery.  Hoping this and a second WIFI access point or a WIFI extender will do the trick.  It's a home with a barn/stables.

Assuming your friend has an Internet connection, just set up the camera and the myDlink account per instructions and get the iPhone app from the D-Link web pages. The account is password-protected.

Thank you for your response.  The question was not how to set it up however.  It was whether or not the internet and Mydlink account and connection was REQUIRED. Or, whether this item can stream like a CCTV over a Local area network ONLY if desired.

Since your phone doesn't support java or activex, it may be tough.

I am able to log into the camera with my phone over wifi via the camera's ip address, however, I can only view the picture that occurs at the time of login. Once logged on to the camera's webpage, every new tap of the "Live Video" tab updates the picture. This is a far cry from a life stream though

Regardless, this can obviously be done without having to utilize the internet connection. If bandwidth limitation is an issue, simply don't configure the router to allow outbound traffic from the camera. Maybe something like the sony dash (if it is java or active x enabled) would work. Simply move it around to the room where one is working, playing etc and allow stream through that by accessing the camera's ip address in the web browser

Erad99, you can connect directly over your local LAN with a web browser and stream the video.  This does not require the internet.

You can also download and use the D-View Cam software from the cameras support page.  I have not tried this but it should work over the LAN.

You will not be able to use the mydlink feature as that requires internet.
