Title: Can't connect Xbox via ethernet to DIR-655
Post by: gcwieka on March 26, 2011, 12:20:56 PM
Xbox is connected via ethernet to DLink. Router does not assign IP address to Xbox but does to all other wireless devices and wired computer. Xbox can connect to xbox live via direct connection to modem so cables and adapter are all good. Can't assign either static or dynamic IP address to Xbox. Have reset router to original config. Am at a loss of what else I can do???

Have 2.01 firmware and have reset modem as well.

PS....It has occasionally been connected in the past but currently no connection possible through router.

Did you set up MAC filtering on the Router?  If you did you must add the XBox to the allowed list.

MAC filter is not set up....But have tried previously and was unsucessful. Xbox Mac Address is shown as 0017FA2AAAA5. On router must input as 00:17:FA:2A:AA:A5 is this correct? What computer name should be shown? Xbox does not apprear in list under LAN computers on routers when connected by ethernet.

Don't have an X-Box so can't give exact information, but it probably won't show a computer name since it is a console.  If you you haven't set up MAC filtering there is no real need to do that as it adds one more thing to think about when trying to troubleshoot.

if you go under advanced network settings on the xbox, you can set a host name so it will show up in the router.
