Title: Dual Band 2.4Ghz performance increase if disabling 5Ghz?
Post by: stevemi21 on March 29, 2011, 04:44:14 PM
Hi guys, just bought the 855 router and just have a quick question regarding the wireless performance. I understand that this routher can run both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz independently and at the same time. My question is, would I notice a performance increase on the 2.4Ghz if I disabled the 5Ghz spectrum? As I have about 3 devices connected to the 2.4 and nothing to the 5, as everything I have isn't compatable with the 5. I ask because I've read on various sites that there is a performance increase on routers when only broadcasting wireless N mode instead of g/n mixed etc. Just wondering if it was at all similar to this?

Thanks!

You shouldn't see much if any differenced if you shut off the 5Ghz radio. It's recommended that if you don't use or can't use a certain band or mode, turn them off. Use Single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have devices that support N. I only have one device in my house, all others a G. No need to broadcast A or B unless you have devices that need those modes.
