Can't get to my Web site with router is connected to my computer and when I connect to my computer with out the router in-line I can connect. Any Ideas on what to do? I tried the reset in the back but it didn't help.   Thanks Tom

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP Modem do you have? Is it a stand alone modem or have a built in router?

Is this Web site of yours local with in your network or remote?

How are you connecting to the router? Wireless or Wired?
If wireless, what wireless modes are you using? Trying Single mode G to test?

Hi,
Cable intertnet wired to the router. All computers wired and wire less can't get to the site when going throught the router. The modem is stand alone and if I go take the router out of the loop I can get to my site.

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

Paint a picture in words of your setup, which is missing. Include Model Numbers, Firmware and Brand.

Make sure you power cycle the modem when switching it from connected to the computer to connected to the router.

Modem is a Surfboard SB4100 cable modem anfd the router is a D-Link Dir-655 and the coumputer is wired. Firmware on the router is Firmware Version : 1.11 I downloaded the latest firmware but it is asking me what program to open the "Bin" file with for the firmware update. The router is block only when conneted to the the router. Sorry if I confused you.  Tom

I would bet the problem is in the router firewall settings. Try setting the UDP and TCP filters to Endpoint Independent.

I would take some time to read through the manual if you are unsure about how to set things up:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Manual/dir655_manual_150.zip (ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Manual/dir655_manual_150.zip)

Hi Tom,

You downloaded the newest firmware for Hardware Revision B of the Router. Don't install the latest for Revision A, but install Firmware 1.21 without SecureSpot.

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Firmware/dir655_firmware_121_no_securespot.zip (ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Firmware/dir655_firmware_121_no_securespot.zip)

If you are still renting your Cable Modem, exchange it for a new Surfboard Cable Modem.

I assume you may have Comcast?

You need to Power Cycle the Cable Modem when switching between the Computer and Router with the Cable Modem.

You don't open the .bin file, you upload it to the router through the administration web pages.

This is a good place to start first. Before updating FW as this might not fix anything...Try changing the Firewall settings. Turn it OFF for a test, then back on. See what you get. I recommend doing a bit more troubleshooting before updating FW.  ;)

I would bet the problem is in the router firewall settings. Try setting the UDP and TCP filters to Endpoint Independent.

Lets start with some basic troubleshooting steps before getting in to changing fiewall settings.

Turn off computer, press the reset button on the back of the router then unplug the router, and unplug the cable modem.
Makes sure ethernet cable from cable modedm is plugged into the WAN port of the router.
Power on cable modem and give it a minute or two to fully boot up.
Power on router and give that a minute to boot up.
Turn on your computer and see if you get IP address from the router and if you can connect to Internet.
