(2) x WDEARS 2TB drives, when formatting the format appears to fail.
RAID 1, EXT 3, Disable Auto-Rebuild, 1998GB capacity for the RAID volume.
I am using Safari in Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
The % progress bar in the web GUI remains at 0%. The DNS-323 becomes unresponsive and must be powered down using the switch on the front.
The status bar at the bottom of the web browser counts up "completed 9 of 10 items", completed 9 of 11 items, completed 9 of 12 items............completed 9 of 1005 items and just keeps going.
Edit: Looks like it is a browser / operating system compatibility issue.
I am formatting now using Internet Explorer (IE) in Windows 7. Using IE the progress bar is behaving as expected. 36% completed as I type this post.
When the software Engs try to reproduce the bug in the lab I am also using Sophos Antivirus for Mac.

My device bricked (for now ...).
It worked fine with 1.10b5, didn't accept the 1.10b6 first, but I suspected an error while download or unzipping so I dl'ed it a second time with different software.
This time it accepted the fw file itself, but after reboot the power and network LEDs keep flashing, HDs do not spin-up. No access possible, my router recognized the DHCP request (the device showed up as active network client) but there's no access to web GUI now.
First, I'll take out the drives and backup their contents. Second ... if there's no automated recovery tool which force-push firmwares through some sort of bootloader, I have to make a serial console cable and recovery process, as described here (http://www.cyrius.com/debian/orion/d-link/dns-323/recovery.html). If someone knows a better way, I appreciate it :) .
*edit 2011-04-04:
Today I gave it another try to boot-up, this time without HDs. Power and network LED keep flashing. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up as "active" anymore in my router, neither it gets its IP adress from the router.
So it looks I have a "recovery case" here.

I did the upgrade from 10b5, i works very well for me.
In previous versions, the UPNP AV/DLNA server didnt work very well, but now its fixed for me, the update process doesent fail or take 10 hours.
I still have problems playing HD material (on my PS3) but everything else works like a charm.
overall good work so far. :)

has anyone tried on a C1 revision ?
(people have found the fans dont spin until the disks are alarmingly hot)
Q) Is there a script to control temp sensros when fan come on? I know some mention and sure someone has done it before, but can't seem to find anyone who has setup Script/tools on C1 revision? (
Is it safe to update from 1.9(release) to 1.10b5?
-
I stuck it on my C1 rev box and all is good.
Had very few problems with 1.10b5 and b6 - only real issues are with UPNP AV server refreshes taking so long but that has got a little better with b6 and also was largely due to huge media collection, of which some files were corrupted making the refresh hang. I'd love it if they included a facility to powerdown (and powerup for that matter) the device on a schedule.
Am using 2 samsung 2TB drives btw

q) Have you had a chance to monitor your drive temperatures?
>>Yeah a powerdown function on schedule would be awsome idea!<<<

Drives are running quite hot compared to usual but that may be because i've just fixed up 10K or so mp3's for frame errors, transferred them on and then its been refreshing the UPNP av server database for the last hour or so and has hit 44degrees with no fan on last time i checked...
That strikes me as high - now you ask i'll be looking a little closer... I've always maintained that temps of 35-40 were best but correct me if thats not the case...
-
2nd beta, the bitorrent addon (The beta one) is still unstable. I get "Connection to server failed" errors most of the time.
Also still have to run a fan in front of the drive because its own fan won't turn on until it's way too hot.

As you can imagine this is quite worrying for the disks, OTHER users have also noticed drives exceeding 44 degrees with no FANs ON, (C1 revisions models only)

This may or may not be helpful in that I am using OS X and installed 1.10b6 without a problem.
OS environment: OS X 10.6.6, Safari and no antivirus software.
D-Link environment: H/W B1; existing F/W 1.10b5; F/W installed 1.10b6; both drives are WD10EARS configures as RAID 1 - EXT3.
Basic steps followed: After firmware was installed and the system rebooted, I restored the system to factory default settings. After the second restart, I configured the system and then reformatted the drives.
Beyond that I have yet to do any further testing.
-
While playing with the 1.10b6 system using two WD10EARS, I installed ffp on the system and all seemed fine. I got as far as being able to connect with SSH. Since I was in learning mode, I decided to reformat the drives and start with a "fresh" installation. During the process I received a message "Hard Drive Formatting Failure (Error Code 107).
A search shows that error codes are not available. I have tried nothing else. I also do not have a machine that can read SATA drives. I do have a pair of Seagate drives, not AF, but thought I would ask questions before I potentially damages four drives.
Additional information. I have started the system and everything looked and sounded normal but the command I use to see devices on the sub-net did not list the failed device.

I dont know what u want to do build a RAID or just a JBOD.
But i suggest to put in one drive. Format. Then put in other drive and format.
Had the same problem with earlier firmware and this worked for me....
-
Thank you for the suggestion. I have used the D-Link CD on a Windows machine to connect and reconfigure the problem unit. Since the unit is a test machine I tried the reformat function again to see if it would fail a second time. It did and I received the same error message. Fortunately I had fewer problems reconnecting to the system.
-
With the previous beta, people had problems trying to format their Advanced Format Drives using ext2, it got to a certain percentage (13% I think, not sure) then stopped. The solution was to use ext3 instead.
-
After doing eight reformatting operations to the system running 1.10b6 and two WD10EARS drives, I do NOT encounter problems if I am using Firefox 3.6 under OS X 10.6.6. When using Safari 5.0.4 the completion percentage does not display, usually on the second time I format the disks. I doubt that few users will do this but it appears to be the reason for the failure I previously reported.

I think they should make a better fan function all together, with SMART readouts and possibility to control fans by user. Made a proposal here --> http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=37999.msg124816#msg124816 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=37999.msg124816#msg124816)

Anyone else still get the "%20" space in PS3?
-
can anyone with the beta build confirm about the BT addon, has it constant network activity been resolved in the 1.10 fw?
TIA

As I recall, that error can be caused by having FFP on your system. If it is, disable it temporarily (rename) and try again.

I installed 1.10 rev 6 on a 323 that I reverted back to 1.09 (from 1.10 rev 5), a couple of weeks ago. As in rev 5 the printing function goes bye-bye. To get it back I had to reset the box to defaults and delete / reconnect to the printer. Not a big deal but annoying and time consuming.
A new issue I'm noticing is that about 30 minutes in to a video the connection to the server terminates with a message "you have become disconnected from the default media server". I'm streaming the video to a DSM-520. I've played this video before under firmware 1.09 with no issues. I've got two other 323's with 1.10 rev 5 and verified this issue exists with 1.10 rev 5 as well.

My testing of the Tools/Time function leads me to believe that it was better implemented under F/W 1.09. Yes, 1.09 functioned differently than than 1.08, but if you enabled daylight savings and set the DST start and end dates, the system seems to keep/display a fairly accurate time. F/W 1.10b5 and 6 functioned more like 1.08 and the reported time was generally incorrect when I checked it.
