i have a dir-655 that has been working great but i have run out of wired ports so i have tried two different switches.....a dlink 8 port and now a dynex dx-gb5prt best buy does not carry dlink or i would have used my gift card on it instead of dynex.........
devices connected to the switch are unable to get to the internet nor can i see them using windows 7 network control panel views, they don't show up in the status list on the router.
I used the same cables on existing devices just unhooked from the dir and then plugged into the switch. switch shows connection speed lights. switch is connected to one of the dir 4 wired ports.
any suggestions would appreciated
devices i tried on the switch include a drobo file server, sharp led tv, and a sony blue ray dvd player (netflix)

DO the TV and or DVD player connect and get internet if you bypass the switch? And do they work from the same port you connect the switch to on the back of the 655?
Try a different patch cable between the 655 and the switch.
If this doesn't fix it then I would say the switch is bad as there usually just plug and play devices and don't require any additional setup or configuration.

Try powering everything off and then turn router back on frist then the switch.
Did you set up any MAC filtering? If you did you need to add the switches MAC to the list.

shouldn't need to add a MAC address for a switch unless it's a smart or a managed switch.

well as they say cant see the forest for the trees.
FurryNutz your second recommendation swap out patch cable was a winner.
i had moved cables all over the devices but never the 'new' one between the router and switch.
swapped it out and the magic just flowed.
looking at the ends i could see two connectors that were bent together
i had been working on this for a week so sweet for it to work finally
i really thank all of your that replied
