Just bought three D-Links from abroad ( Canada) and now am in Mauritius. They are brand new and now going to set them up.
1)
DIR-825
H/W : B1
F/W : 2.02NA
2)
DNS-323
H/W : C1
F/W : 1.09
3)
DWA-140
H/w : B2
F/H : 1.50
I already own a Beetel 220BX2 modem.
I will be connecting :
1) my PC through the DWA-140
2) three Samsung Galaxy S
3) One LG phone (b/g)
4) Network Player (Yet to be bought)
5) Laptop
Can someone help me with steps to follow (Firmware updates, Configurations)...
I was planning to do VPN and to have each device have its own IP.
Am new to networking and this is my first buy.
Help will be much appreciated :)
What is the perfect setup

I would set them up to see if they all work well at first. No need to do FW update if there working out of the box.
I would set the WiFi mode on the 825 to a single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have any devices that support N. Not need to broadcast A or B or N if you don't have any devices that can connect on these modes.
What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
This BEETEL modem, is it stand alone modem or does it have a built in router?
If DSL and the modem has a built in router, bridge the modem. Having 2 routers online causes connection problems. If the modem is stand alone, then don't worry.
Set up each device for static IP address reservation in the 825 router and make sure the devices are set to auto obtain IP addressing. This will ensure devices get an IP address and it doesnt' change.

All device are N compatible except the LG.So i will go for a g/n mode.
ISP is the Orange telecom (Mauritius)
DSL connection
its stand alone.has a LAN out to connect to router and a web based configuration for firewall,wan,lan etc.

The DSL modem has configuration for firewall, Wan and LAN? I might presume this modem isn't stand alone and has a built in router. I would check, one way to see, if you connect the modem to the 825, go into the 825s router web page and look at the Status/Device Info/WAN section, if you see a 192.168 address for the WAN IP, the DSL modem is handing off a private IP address and the MODEM has a built in router. It's preferred that you bridge the modem, effectively turning off the router function and then use the better features of the 825 as your main router.

yes.i tried doing the bridge. i read about disabling nat/dhcp on the modem.but this doesnt allow my internet to connect.my modem requires a username and password.when i disabled it in the modem, i configured the login in the router but doesn't work.
between, is it normal to get only 50% signal with a DWA-140 withing 5 metre of direct line of sight? Beats me.

succeeded in connecting all devices.but again how to maximize signal strenght?

I would try using Single mode G or N or Mixed G and N if you have any devices that are N supporting. Try changing the channels from auto to 11 and start there and see if you can find one that works well.

channel 10 works best.all support N mode.i solved the problem of connecting the dwa-140 by g mode only by switching ipv4 multicast on and rate was upto 300mbps connecting by N..but since i connected my nas (dns-323), again connection drops to g only and this affects transfer rate to the nas.any idea?

is there a way to maximise throughput by mtu?

Can the NAS do wired connections? It would think wired would be preferred for NAS. MTU is mainly for WAN and ISP connections. Cable is usually 1500 and DSL 1492 or there abouts.

Do i need to create a virtual server or something like that to access my network from outside?

Ya you'll probably have to set something up for external access.

and how do i proceed for that.
in the virtual server,
i choose ftp and my computer address.
saved.
then i try to access the link through my mobile phone which is not connected to the network.
Am i doing something wrong because it doesn't load.
