Title: Printing with User accounts setup
Post by: Carlpea on April 06, 2011, 02:11:47 PM
Hi,

I'm on firmware V2. I have a Dell laser printer connected to my DNS-320. When I have no users set-up so the device is open to anyone connected to my home network I can print fine but as soon as I set-up a couple of users it refuses to print?

It's like the print is being sent to the spooler but the NAS is refusing the print due to some sort of permissions issue.

I can't see anywhere that I can set permissions for printing, just for folders.

Any advise would be appreciated.

They advised me to check ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns/DNS-320/firmware/ every so often for a new firmware.

It's not printer specific; its a firmware issue where you can't set permissions to print.

You will need to remove all user accounts and use anonymous login until a new firmware is released.

If the ftp is turned on and you don't have any permissions set does that mean that anyone can go through my data over the internet, I want to setup the ftp and a print server but not if all my data is exposed

If they knew your IP or DNS address then yes anyone could see your data.

@ Carlpea and all the others with this problem

Today i contacted D-Link Support here in Germany.
They seemed very suprised about our difficulties with the Print-Server built in the DNS-320.

But they asked me for my configuration-backup including all the users and their passes, they will try to reproduce the failure..   ;)

sounds good so far...

so, if there are any sensational news i will let you all know...

in the meantime: Let's have a cup of coffee....  (or some beer, cause at least i'm a bavarian)    ;D

p.s. sorry bout my english, it's a long time ago i visited school...

Just to confirm the Beta firmware has resolved this issue.

Thanks :).
