Title: Some laptops can't "see" the network after Settings change and router reboot
Post by: kurtisnet on January 19, 2009, 03:54:39 AM
Hi,

I've scanned through the forum and hasn't found a similar post to my problem. I have my DIR-655 at firmware 1.21 (downloaded from dlink.com.sg). I've had the following problem since I bought the router around 5 months ago with previous firmwares.

I am sharing my wireless connection with my friends in my student hostel and we are all using notebooks. Problem is when I try to enable QoS, and then the router reboots, my notebook (Acer Aspire 5680) and a Dell notebook can still 'see' the network after the reboot but other laptops such as Fujitsu Lifebooks stop seeing the network no matter what they do (reset wireless adapter/windows restart). The solution I've found so far is to remove the administrator password and then reboot the router. And then put back the password again and reboot again. Sometimes, it doesn't work at first try. I have to do this process several times for them to see the network again.

So far, I have this problem with my room mate's 3 yr old Acer notebook, my friends' 2 yr old Fujitsu notebooks and another friend's Fujitsu 3 yr old notebook. My Acer notebook which is also 2 yrs old nvr have problems seeing the network, so does the Dell notebook which is like less than a year old.

I've looked for answers on the net but really can't find any answer or similar problem. Is it my router that is faulty or are there any solutions I can take?

Currently, it is set as G and N mode, channel 9.
MAC filtering is on.
No wireless security rather than MAC filtering.
QoS is now off.
Wish is off.
SPI is off.

Please help me with my problem. Thanks!

kurtisnet,

Are the drivers for the laptops internal adapters up to date?

Yes they are. Windows XP or Vista also the same.
First time, one of the Fujitsu laptops were using XP. Then I upgrade it to Vista, still got the problem. Not sure why.
