Hi,
I have the DIR-655 router replacing my linksys G. Im having some issues with the wireless portion.
I know that wired vs wireless always results in a faster wired performance, but Im a little confused as I am getting worse speed than on my Linksys 54G.
I am using an Intel 3945 card with the latest intel drivers.
Here is a bit of my log:

The reboots are non stop (I just didnt want to post the whole thing) there a duplicate of the above log).
I dont seem to be getting kicked off the network. I had the Deathentication error & followed the forums advice using the two MS patches & the driver getting updated.

That isnt an issue anymore (just to give some background).
As a speed test, I went here http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Games/Pages/legoindianajonesoa.aspx (http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Games/Pages/legoindianajonesoa.aspx) to download from download.microsoft.com (a known fast server).
On my wired desktop connection to the 655, I am getting 1500KB/Sec. Once thats cancelled I tried to do the same thing on my laptop & I am getting 120kb/sec. This is less than 10% of the wired connection.
My results on the linksys 54G were about 900kb/sec (during a test just now).
Any ideas on what I can do?
My setup is as follows;
Firmware Version: 1.21 Hardware Version: A4
Channel 11
20 Mhz
Transmission - automatic
Security - WPA - Personal
WPA Only
TPIK
DNS Relay Enabled
WAN Traffic Shaping
Enable Traffic Shaping: YES
Automatic Uplink Speed : NO
Manual Uplink Speed : 2048kbps
Connection Type : Cable
Detected xDSL or Other Frame Relay Network : No
QoS Engine Setup
Enable QoS Engine : YES
Automatic Classification : YES
Dynamic Fragmentation : YES
No Rules entered
Wifi Protected Enabled: Yes (though I am not using it for anything)
Thanks,
Rich

Reference the following link listed below and try those settings.

Hi,
I just want to clarify that I am not using a "N" adapter, just a "G" adapter. If I force "N" will I lock my "G" devices out?
Thanks,
Rich

You can still select N and G mode in the router.

Im still getting very slow speeds. I am not sure what the deal is.
I downloaded a file again after those changes & it makes no difference on my "G" based card.
120kb/sec seems to be about as fast as I can get on the wireless. The same microsoft site on my linksys WRT54G gets around 900kb/sec.
Do I have a dud of a router? I was looking forward to a 100% GB network.

According to my log, the system "Wireless restart" message came up 340 times from 10:30pm to 11:55pm this evening.
I think something is very wrong. Is that common?

You will never get 100% GB network with a G wireless card, not even with an 'N' card. If you really want GB capability, get wired.
But I must admit that you need to do better than 150 Kb/s. How's the connection quality in the wireless status overview? You might need to work on the antenna placement.

Well, I did change the 20mhz to auto & updated the drivers, etc.
I am still feeling like this is not as fast as my Linksys "G" setup in terms of the wireless. Right now I have a 100% connection on the wireless.
In the morning I am going to try my old setup (older linksys 8 port router with a DHCP turned off wifi linksys G) & test within 10 minutes of each other:
ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/
They have a 512meg test file. On my wired connection, I get about 2000KB/sec, on my wireless in the past I would get closer to 1200KB/sec downloading from my ISP.
I will also test with the wired connection connected directly to the 655 (right now the only thing plugged in is cable modem & 1 wire to the GB switch I have).
I have a DNS-323 as well. Wireless I am getting 2.18 Mbytes per second (my ftp program also shows 17.34 mbs which I am guessing is the "54Mbps"rating, while wired from my GB nic'ed computer it gets closer to 19 Mbytes per second.
That could be a limit of the DNS-323.
Anyway, I will follow up with more testing.
I also noticed that it seems much slower to respond when browsing webpages. I often see the "waiting for page" message. I didnt used to have that issue with my old setup.

The DNS 323 is limited to about the rates you get. It will rate higher with rereads, but that's just not the daily common practice.
