When I got the DNS-321 I installed 2 500gb drives and setup Raid1.
We used it in our home office without a problem for weeks.
We just moved into a real office and now the DNS-321 can't be found.
The easy Search Utility shows nothing. I cannot connect using the ip.
The lights on the front of it show there is network activity. But it is not in the device list of my router.
We really need to get this figured out as we have important files we need to access asap on there.
Any suggestions?

Is there a firewall or any switches between the DNS-321 and router? Can you test the unit on a port you know is working (swap out another device)?
-
I swapped it out with another port that works (my laptop is connected to it), nothing.
No router or switches.
At our new office we have Qwest with the PK5000Z modem/router. I found this thread (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=16617.0) which is the same modem/router I have. So now I have a DLINK DI-524 plugged into the PK5000z (in transparent mode).
I have internet access and everything seems to work fine other than the DNS-321 isn't showing up anywhere.
Again, I appreciate the help

The DNS is designed for access on a network and won't work if directly connected to your laptop Ethernet port.

Gotcha.
So I plugged it back into the router and ran the easy find. Again it locates the NAS but I cannot configure it or map the drives.

Can you go into the router, identify the DNS-321 IP address, and ping the NAS from your laptop? If you are successful, try directly mapping the DNS from Windows (My Computer -> Map Network Drive)
\\ipaddress\Volume_1

Still not able to connect to it.
Could it be because when I originally set it up I set receive DHCP to disabled and now the new network doesn't see it?
I saved all our passwords for the NAS and users but when it asks for the admin password none of them work. Can I reset it without losing my data?

I can't speak for the DNS-321, but if you reset the factory default firmware on the DNS-323 and 343, the data is not impacted. Keep in mind that you can always disconnect your router from the network and connect your DNS-321 and laptop directly to the router to access the unit.

Ok I took a chance and did the reset. I am now able to connect and all my data is still there.
I know that Raid 1 isn't a backup solution and I know better than rely on this as my only storage. I will be setting up Amazon S3 for our backup.
JavaLawyer, thanks for your help with this. I really appreciate it.

I'm glad everything worked out.
Yes, RAID is not a backup and only provides redundancy. Regularly scheduled offsite backup of critical data is your best bet for data integrity.
