Title: Using USB port on DIR628 problem
Post by: Hoppy1953 on May 12, 2011, 06:47:38 PM
I have a new DIR628, it has a XP pc and laptop, and Win7 Pc connected to the hard wired ports of the router.  I have a WD 1T hard drive connected to the USB port, Have no problems connecting to the HD{being used as a back up HD}.  My grandaughter's Win7 Dell laptop connects to the HD ok.  My daughters Vista laptop will not connect to the HD, it sees it and says it's avaiable but won't connect.  The laptop won't connect wireless or hard wired to the router.  I emailed the question to Dlink, but haven't had any feedback.  I hope someone on this forum has had the same type of problem and has a answer. Thank you.

That is a Shareport issue.  Check on that forum.

I don't think this is really a Shareport problem as i have a XP  desktop, HP laptop, and a HP netbook and a Win7 desktop and a Dell laptop all connecting to the HD on the USB port on the router.  The only problem was a Vista Compaq laptop that wouldn't connect to the HD on the USB of the router even that it was seeing it.  What I did yesterday was reinstall the Shareport Utility on the Compaq and reset the router and now it seems to be working OK.  I really think this was some problem with Vista.

Glad you found a fix for it man. Vista wasn't the best OS IMO. Win 7 is what Vista should have been even though 7 has some issues, it's WAYYYY better than Vista ever was or will be.  ;) Hope it works well for ya. Might install 7 on that Vista PC sometime.  ;D
