Title: Noob Firewall question
Post by: NNNNorma on May 13, 2011, 10:35:36 AM
Hi, I may have a silly question here. please excuse if i did not phrase question correctly. I am at my gateway reviewing  my logs and there is nothing listed. I have System Activity Debug Information,Attacks,Dropped Packets, Notice,  all ticked. I have set SSID to invisible  and have a long alpha numeric password (would not accept it with the other symbols) my gate way is password protected. My last wireless router was a Dlink 625 and in my logs i would always see who pinged me and such. I am very concerned because with initial set up i have had difficulties with the password. Is this normal not to see any logs whatsoever? I have not had any problems with disconnection, that i know of. Just wondering if the firewall is even working. Thanks I forgot to add that i do have current firmware

it all depends on where your at, what is on the network and your ISP.
How are you connecting? wired or wireless?
WPA or WPA2 security is preferred for wireless.

Well you can go in to the router and look under Advanced/Tools/Firewall, SPI should be ON and you can set the TCP and UDP to Endpoint Independent and will work well. You will see some long entries possibly in the logs regarding various things. Some say BLOCKING and in most cases this is a good thing and it's just letting you know that the router is doing it's job.
